3.2. Edit

The Edit function allows you to change values on questions, background variables or user defined variables.

Define values for questions/background variables

It is possible to change values for response options, to group response options, change values on a response scale and exclude response options from a table/graph.

1. Go to the Variables menu, under the Analysis tab, and click on the Edit button. A new window will open.

2. Edit Variable values: In the drop down menu, select your question or variable. Click on the Define button to change/define values for the specific response option. A new window will open.

Value: Here you can change the values of a scale.

Exclude from calculation: This option allows you to exclude the selected response option(s) from the average, variance and standard deviation calculations. This is typically used in matrix questions that include a don't know option.

Exclude from questions: This option allows you to exclude the selected response option(s) from all tables and graphs. This is typically used for questions where you have a response option with no answers in.

You can mark a response option by clicking on it. The response option will be marked with a grey color. Click on the Rename button and add the name of the group. Click OK to change the existing response option to the new name.

If you want to group several response options, then mark the response options you want to group and click on the Group button. Then add a name for the new group and click OK.

Delete user defined variables

On some projects you might find it necessary to delete a user defined variable (UDV) or to add a new response option to a user defined variable (UDV).

1. Go to the Variables menu, under the Analysis tab, and click on the Edit button. A new window will open.

2. User defined variables (Coding): In the drop down menu, select the user defined variable you want to delete and click the Delete button. A new window will open.

3. Click OK if you want to delete the variable.

Note: The option of deleting a user defined variable is blocked if you have added the UDV to one or more reports. In this case you need to remove the UDV from the different reports before you can delete it.

Edit user defined variables (add response options)

You can add additional response options to user define variables (UDV).

1. Go to the Variables menu, under the Analysis tab, and click on the Edit button. A new window will open.

2. User defined variables (Coding): In the drop down menu, select the user defined variable you want to edit the Edit button. A new window will open.

Here you can see your user defined variable (UDV) and the connected response options.

Name: You can rename your UDV.

Response Options: You can view the existing reponse options in the top text field and add new response options in the bottom one.

3. Click OK to save your changes.
