1.1.1. Question types

Enalyzer provides the following question types:

Single Question

A single question allows for respondents to only select one of the specified response alternatives.

1. After creating a new question, select Single in the drop down menu, under Question Type, and press Forward. A new window will open.

Response options: Response options are separated by a line break, as shown in the example above.

Final response option is open: This will make the last response option open. It gives respondents the option to enter an open answer, in case they cannot identify with any of the response options.

Apply randomization of response options: This function ensures that the order of response alternatives is not the same for all respondents.

No randomization of final response option: This function ensures that the final response option is not randomized.

Layout: Response options can be displayed as radio buttons or as a drop down menu. Drop down provides a better overview for respondents if there are many response options. If there are many response options, Enalyzer's responsive design will automatically convert radio buttons to a drop down menu to prevent scrolling.

Position of radio buttons: Radio buttons can be displayed vertically or horizontally. If displayed vertically, they can be positioned to the right or left.

Save question in the library: To save this question in the library, press the Save in.. button.  We recommend to save questions in the library if they can be used in other surveys.

Insert images: To insert images, press the Images button. This will open a new window, where images can be uploaded to the question.

2. After selecting the relevant functions, click OK for the question to be set up in the element tree.

Multiple Question

A multiple question means that the respondent can choose more than one of the listed response options.

1. After creating a new question, select Multiple in the drop down menu, under Question Type, and press Forward. A new window will open.

Response Options: Response options are separated by a line break, as shown in the example above. If you have an exclusive response option (e.g. none of the above or don't know) you can add [xop] after the response option. When respondents select the [xop] option, the system will remove the previous options chosen.

Note: Remember to Test the [xop] function.

Number of allowed choices: Here you can choose the amount of response options participants can select. The options are; All, min-max, or Exact. If you choose min-max or exact you must state either the minimum-maximum numbers or the exact number of answers the respondents must submit.

The final response option is open: This option allows respondents to enter a comment if they choose the last response alternative. Common use of this is a list of options, followed by the last one being 'Other'.

Apply randomization of response options: This option ensures that the order of response alternatives is not the same for all respondents.

No randomization of final response option: Remember to activate this option, if response options are randomized and the last response option is open. It will ensure that the last open response option is a constant for all respondents.

Position of response options: Response options can be displayed vertically or horizontally. If you select vertically, choose between right or left positioning.

Save question in the library: To save this question in the library, press the Save in.. button.  We recommend to save questions in the library if they can be used in other surveys.

Matrix Question

A matrix question is a list of questions and response alternatives graphically put into a matrix. It allows respondents to answer various statements and factors that have the same scale.

1. After creating a new question, select Matrix in the drop down menu, under Question Type, and press Forward. A new window will open.

Sub-Questions: These are the statements or factors that respondents will address. Each sub-question is separated by a line break, as shown in the example above

Response questions: Response options are separated by a line break, as shown in the example above.

The final sub-question is open: If you choose this option you will give the respondent the possibility to enter a response that is not listed. In other words, the respondent may enter a comment in the last sub-question.

Apply randomization of sub-questions: This option ensures that the order of sub-question is not the same for all respondents.

No randomization of final sub-question: Remember to activate this option, if sub-questions are randomized and the last sub-question is open. It will ensure that the last sub-question is a constant for all respondents.

Layout: Response options can be displayed as radio buttons or in a drop down menu.

Save question in the library: To save this question in the library, press the Save in.. button.  We recommend to save questions in the library if they can be used in other surveys.

Insert images: To insert images, press the Images button. This will open a new window, where images can be uploaded to the question.

Matrix - Numerical Question

A matrix - numerical question allows respondents to insert exact numerical values in response to various statements/factors.

Note: It is not possible to create a user defined variable from a matrix - numerical question.

Note: The numbers have to processed to be in another program, it is possible to export the exact values to an Excel or CSV file.

1. After creating a new question, select Matrix - Numerical in the drop down menu, under Question Type, and press Forward. A new window will open.

Sub-Questions: These are the statements or factors that respondents will address. Each sub-question is separated by a line break, as shown in the example above.

Response Options: Response options are separated by a line break, as shown in the example above.

Numeric format: There are two numeric formats; commas and periods.

The final sub-question is open: If you choose this option you will give the respondent the possibility to enter a response that is not listed. In other words, the respondent may enter a comment in the last sub-question.

Require a minimum of one answer for the question: Respondents have to provide a minimum of one answer for the question.

Save question in the library: To save this question in the library, press the Save in.. button.  We recommend to save questions in the library if they can be used in other surveys.

Insert images: To insert images, press the Images button. This will open a new window, where images can be uploaded to the question.

Matrix - 3D Question

A matrix - 3D question are a series of statements or factors configured in a matrix. The difference from a normal matrix is that the respondents must now define their answer to several dimensions.

1. After creating a new question, select Matrix - 3D in the drop down menu, under Question Type, and press Forward. A new window will open.

Sub-Questions: These are the statements or factors that respondents will address. Each sub-question is separated by a line break, as shown in the example above

Dimensions: These are the overall values of the statements/factors the sub-questions will be evaluated against. Each dimension is separated by a line break, as shown in the example above.

Response Options (see below): Enter response options for every dimension. Each response option is separated by a line break. Use the drop down menu to switch between dimensions. Click OK to accept and continue.

Select order of replies: Choose the order of your dimensions. Click on Order and mark the dimension you want to move up/down. Press OK to accept.

Apply randomization of sub-questions: This option ensures that the order of sub-question is not the same for all respondents.

Layout: Response options can be displayed as radio buttons or as a drop down menu. Drop down provides a better overview for respondents if there are many response options. If there are many response options, Enalyzer's responsive design will automatically convert radio buttons to a drop down menu to prevent scrolling.
